Description
The Qolsys IQ WIFI 6 Router uses 802.11 a/b/g/n/ax 2.4 GHz and IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac/ax 5GHZ WIFI technology. It is a dual-band mesh router with a Qualcomm IPQ6000 Chipset and 512 MB NAND & 512 MB DDR3-933 MHz memory. It comes with a wall or ceiling mount that offers cord storage, in case the power cord is longer than necessary.
By default, the IQ WIFI 6 offers three (3) network partitions, including the Guest Network and the Main Network. This partition is dedicated to the user’s WIFI devices. Both of these networks will automatically switch between the 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz, for seamless optimization of speed and performance. This feature is called band-steering, and cannot be disabled. That means if the end-user changes the SSID for the 2.4 GHz network, the SSID for the 5GHz network will automatically change to match it.
There is also a dedicated private partition called Security that is used by devices associated with the security system, allowing the security dealer to better manage security, surveillance, and smart home devices. By separating the security system devices from the rest of the home or business network, accidental disruptions in security device service caused by end-user changes are avoided.
Tools such as remote WPS (WIFI Protected Setup) allow the alarm dealer to further simplify the installation of ancillary devices. With the IQ WIFI 6, a dealer will be able to remotely configure a device using WPS (with the help of the end-user or an installer on-site) and will be able to choose which of the four (4) network partitions the device should be connected to. On top of that, Alarm. com products, such as cameras, will automatically switch themselves to the Security partition after initial setup if they aren’t connected to that partition at the time they are added to the WIFI network.
The remote management features are built-in and are accessed through Alarm.com or the Alarm.com Mobile Tech app. If an issue does occur with the network, in many cases remote management allows the dealer to resolve the issue and prevent a truck roll to the site. The IQ WIFI 6 utilizes the Qualcomm Networking Pro 400 WIFI 6 platform. This highly flexible base is designed to meet the challenges of today’s WIFI networks, which are growing ever more crowded.
In addition to having configuration options available using the touchscreen on an IQ Panel 2 Plus, IQ Panel 4, or IQ4 Hub, the end-user will be able to access the IQ WIFI 6 from the customer website or app. Among other things, the user can create groups for devices, such as a group for children’s gaming devices. Once a group has been created, the user can pause access to that group when it’s time to eat dinner, do homework, or go to bed. Using the IQ WIFI 6, a network can support up to eight (8) nodes (1 Controller and 7 Agents), with each node covering about 1,500 square feet (457㎡).
